Become a board member

The Eel River Valley Youth Soccer League (ERVYSL) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization committed to providing quality soccer programs for youth throughout Southern Humboldt, Fortuna, and surrounding areas. Our Board of Directors ensures the league’s mission is upheld by overseeing operations, finances, policies, and strategic direction.

Board members serve as leaders, decision-makers, and advocates for youth soccer, working to keep the sport affordable and accessible to as many children as possible.

Becoming a Board Member

Eligibility

Any individual committed to supporting local youth soccer and upholding ERVYSL’s mission is eligible to apply.

Application Process

To be considered for the ERVYSL Board of Directors, applicants must:
1. Attend at least two full Board meetings prior to submitting their application.
2. Submit a written statement outlining their skills, experience, and interest in serving on the Board. This must be submitted at least one week before the meeting in which their nomination will be considered.

Selection & Appointment

  • During the next scheduled Board meeting, applicants will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and discuss their qualifications.
  • The Board will deliberate in a closed session, followed by a vote on the nomination.
  • Applicants will be notified of the decision by the ERVYSL President within 24 hours.
  • If approved, new Board members will officially begin their term at the next regular Board meeting.

Note: All Board members must pass a Live Scan and background check, like ERVYSL coaches and volunteers. They must also finish the Intro to Safety Course and the SafeSport Course to meet youth sports safety rules. The Intro to Safety Course covers risk management and player safety basics, while the SafeSport Course aims to stop abuse and misconduct in sports. Not completing these steps, or having any criminal history or future legal problems, may lead to removal from the Board.
